Performing & Accompanying
Aside from teaching, I am kept busy throughout the year as the principal accompanist to Llandaf Choral Society and Gabalfa Community Choir. In addition, I am one third of the Triptych Trio (Soprano, Cello and Piano) and the Elisa Trio (Violin, Clarinet, and Piano), and play second melodica in the Puff and Blow Ensemble. I am also an occasional pianist for WNO's Youth Department, the RWCMD, Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra, and workshop leader for Arts Active's Sound Works sessions at St. David's Hall, Cardiff. As a musician I am also employed by the charities Live Music Now and Music in Hospitals, bringing music to care homes, dementia homes, hospitals and SEN schools.
I am also a freelance pianist and accompanist, available for weddings, functions, and frequently provide exam and audition rehearsals and accompaniments. I am also and an experienced 'pit' player for musical theatre productions. I regularly accompany auditions and exams from prep tests up to diploma level.
I have a dedicated rehearsal and teaching room at my home available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends for exam and audition rehearsals.
For early grades I tend to charge £20 for rehearsals and examination accompaniment (all-inclusive). For higher grades and diplomas I charge between £30-£40. I am also happy to prepare students for the aural sections of examinations for no extra charge.
See here for further recordings of solo and ensemble performances.
THE TRIPTYCH TRIO
The Triptych Trio formed in 2012 with Soprano Rachel Marsh, Cellist Kirsten Miller and myself as pianist, all graduates from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Aside from our numerous function, wedding and formal concert appearances we are also employed by Live Music Now, presenting workshops in SEN schools, performing in care homes and specialist dementia homes and participating in music festivals around the UK.
Although our trio is an unusual combination, there is nevertheless a surprising amount already written for it by various composers, including Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Richard Strauss. We also actively arrange our own repertoire and appropriate music for our own use if it is otherwise out-of-reach. Our combination of course also allows for three combinations of duos and three soloists, which we take advantage of at every opportunity.
We are keen to promote contemporary and new music. In 2013 we commissioned and performed A Babe is Born for Triptych and SATB Choir by Alexander Thacker, following this up in 2014 with his song cycle To Eyes' Fascination, which we have since performed around the country. We also commissioned and performed Violet to Vita by Yfat Soul Zisso for International Womens' Day. In addition, we are avid performers of the music of Amy Beach and E. J. Moeran, as well as André Previn's Vocalise and Four Songs.
